Topographic Archive - Fjords

This is the topography of a huge Nordic piece, recorded in memory because it is transformative in its size and approachness that forces us to experience each natural element.
It is an irregular plane created after a travel.
"We head north and the car follows the mountains together to the gray patch of freeze water. I open the window and take in the chill of the cold breeze. We are close to the ground and the glacial north, where the elements get closer, magnifying there every morphological feature.
We follow a route and the lines that stripe the landscape are as extensive as the longer this journey is. Cool tones, soft curves, irregular textures and this is the topography that registers in memory for a textile archive."

Uma residência artística é estar fora do habitat/ateliê, durante um determinado espaço de tempo, para morar num outro lugar, e criar através de uma experiência de total dedicação ao objeto artístico. Manteigas foi o destino, e a Burel Factory foi quem estendeu o convite. Agendas cruzadas e bagagens feitas, no final de novembro de 2022 rumámos à Serra da Estrela para um contacto prolongado com a matéria-prima que elegemos frequentemente nos nossos trabalhos: a lã.
Durante uma semana, a Burel Factory foi o nosso laboratório, e a sala com vista sobre o vale glaciar do Zêzere, o nosso ateliê. “A arte tem um papel muito importante na nova vida do burel”, diz-nos Isabel Costa. Recebidos numa montanha de frio e com conforto humano, a residência artística estimulou a experimentação e a criação de peças têxteis especialmente pensadas a partir das paisagens, das cores e das características do território único que é a Serra da Estrela.
Desta viagem trouxemos um registo de imagens com as texturas graníticas da montanha, o contraste de cores entre tonalidades quentes e neutras, e registámos os elementos que caracterizam a topografia serrana. Ficámos deslumbrados e aquivámos imagens na memória. Os exercícios, as experiências e os caminhos percorridos nesta Estrada Têxtil serão agora desvendados.
Estrada Têxtil — Memórias de uma residência artística na Burel Factory estará patente na Burel Factory Project Studio - Gallery até ao dia 24 de junho, integrando também o circuito da primeira edição da Lisbon Design Week, a decorrer em Lisboa entre os dias 24 e 28 de maio.
